How to calculate the ROI of AI training
The ROI of AI training is the value of the time your team gets back, measured against what that time costs you. Four numbers give you the answer.
Hours saved per person per week × team size × 52 weeks × hourly rate = estimated annual saving
1. Hours saved per person per week. ivee's industry benchmarks run from 5 hours a week in education and healthcare to 11 hours in technology. The field is editable, because your team is not an average.
2. Team size. The number of people who will use AI day to day, not your total headcount.
3. 52 weeks. An annual figure, so one good week does not flatter the total.
4. Hourly rate. The average UK salary for your industry divided by 1,760 working hours, which is 220 working days at 8 hours after holiday and bank holidays.
A worked example. A 25-person professional services team at the benchmark 10 hours a week, on an average UK salary of £42,000, comes out at 10 × 25 × 52 × £23.86, or £310,227 of recovered time a year.
Salary cost is a proxy for value, not a cash refund. It tells you what the recovered time is worth. What lands in the bank depends on what you do with it.
Hours saved is only half the answer
Recovered time becomes return when someone points it at better work. In the teams we train, the return shows up in three places.
Capacity. Work that used to need another hire gets absorbed by the team you already have.
Revenue. The biggest returns we see come from teams that move reclaimed hours onto billable or revenue-generating work rather than banking them as slack.
Risk and cost. Trained teams stop improvising with company data in public chatbots, and they stop burning tokens on work a cheaper prompt would have done. Governance and costs stay under control.

Questions people ask before they trust the number
How do you calculate ROI on AI training?
Multiply the hours each person saves per week by your team size, by 52 weeks, by their hourly rate. Hourly rate is the average salary divided by 1,760 working hours a year. That gives you the annual value of the time recovered, which you then weigh against the cost of the training.
How many hours does AI training actually save?
Between 5 and 11 hours per person per week, depending on the industry. Technology teams sit at the top of that range, professional services at 10 hours, finance and telecommunications at 9. Education, healthcare and hospitality sit at 5. These are ivee's benchmarks from over 1,000 teams trained in the UK.
Why 1,760 hours a year?
It is 220 working days at 8 hours, which is what a UK full-time year looks like once you take out weekends, statutory holiday and bank holidays. Using 1,760 rather than a headline 2,080 keeps the hourly rate honest, so the saving is not inflated.
Is the saving real money?
It is the value of recovered time, priced at what you already pay for that time. It converts to cash when the hours go into revenue work, or when they absorb work that would otherwise have needed a new hire. Treat the figure as a budgeting starting point, not a line in your accounts.
Can I use our own numbers instead of the benchmark?
Yes. Selecting an industry fills the hours field with our benchmark, and you can type over it. If you have measured your own time savings from a pilot, use that figure. The result will be more useful than any average.
